Part 1: Personal Information (30s per answer)
Do you play any sports? Why or why not?
Answer: "Yes, I try to play padel at least twice a week. I find it very invigorating and it's a great way to socialize. If I don't have time for a match, I usually go for a brisk walk in the evening to clear my head."
Is it easy to keep fit in your city?
Answer: "Generally, yes. Seville has a lot of bike lanes and outdoor parks with exercise equipment. However, the extreme heat in the summer makes it quite difficult to exercise outdoors during the day, so most people join a gym instead."
What is your favorite healthy meal?
Answer: "I love a good grilled salmon with roasted vegetables. It's packed with nutrients and healthy fats. I try to avoid processed foods because they make me feel sluggish and tired."
Part 2: Describe, Compare and Decide (45s per answer)
Describe this picture (Image B).
Answer: "In this photo, I can see a group of young men in the middle of a basketball game. They are on an outdoor court, and one player is jumping to shoot the ball. It looks like a very high-energy environment."
What are the benefits of team sports compared to individual sports?
Answer: "Team sports are excellent for building social skills and teamwork. You have to communicate and rely on others, which creates a sense of belonging. Individual sports, like jogging, are more about self-discipline and going at your own pace."
Which type of exercise do you think is more motivating?
Answer: "For me, team sports are more motivating. If you join a team, you have a commitment to others, so you are less likely to skip a session. When you exercise alone, it's much easier to make excuses and stay on the sofa."
Part 3: Compare, Contrast and Speculate (45s per answer)
Describe these two diets.
Answer: "The first image shows a child eating fast food, which is high in calories and saturated fats. In contrast, the second image shows a much more balanced diet consisting of fresh fruit, which provides essential vitamins and fiber."
Why is childhood obesity becoming a major problem in many countries?
Answer: "I think it’s a combination of poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Many children spend too much time in front of screens instead of playing outside. Also, junk food is often cheaper and more convenient for busy parents than cooking fresh meals."
What can schools do to encourage healthier habits?
Answer: "Schools play a vital role. They should provide healthier options in the canteen and increase the hours of Physical Education. Educating kids about nutrition early on can help them make better choices throughout their lives."
Part 4: Personal Experience (2m speaking / 1m prep)
Tell me about a time you made a change to improve your health. How did you feel? Do you think the government should tax sugary drinks to improve public health?
Answer: "About a year ago, I realized I was feeling very stressed, so I decided to take up swimming. At first, it was exhausting, but after a few weeks, I noticed a huge improvement in my energy levels and my sleep quality. It made me feel much more resilient. Regarding the sugar tax, I believe it's a step in the right direction. Just like with tobacco, increasing the price can deter people from buying unhealthy products. However, the government should also use that tax money to make healthy food more affordable for low-income families, as eating well shouldn't be a luxury."
