Writing Aptis Advanced 5

1 (20-30 words each question.) I  love learning languages. I’m from Spain and can speak English fluently. I’d like to start with another language.

1. Which one should I begin with and why?

I think that you should learn Chinese. I strongly believe that you have to distinguish yourself from the rest of the people. If you are applying for a position, you will probably stand a higher chance than other candidates to get the job.

2. Do you think it will be harder than English?

Chinese will definitely be harder to learn than English, but it will be worth it. Everybody knows how to speak English nowadays, so it’s very handy to speak important languages, which are spoken by few non-native speakers.

3. Do you think I will be able to find material for studying?

There should be plenty of material online. Chinese is becoming a popular language lately, which is learned by some brave people who aren’t discouraged by the fact of learning another writing method.

2)   (120-150 words) Write an email to your local mayor, explaining your feelings about the announcement and suggesting possible alternatives for creating more jobs. Use all the information in your notes:

The Ontario government is protecting jobs by naming the Ontario Food Terminal lands as a Provincially Significant Employment Zone — an identification that protects lands that are critically important both locally and to the province for jobs and economic growth.

Mowbray Town Council

Your notes:

Agreement with the initiative and support of this idea

Advertising is always such an important tool!

Local product empowerment may work wonders

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in regard to the measures taken by the Ontario government in order to protect jobs in the field.

Firstly, striking lands as a vital part of the economy is a good initiative to prevent land workers from losing their jobs. However, the government has to tackle the issue and come up with other possible solutions.

Another measure could be that the government invests money in advertising local production, such as the food industry. If they praised the quality of their products, more foreign people would be drawn to try the items sold locally. As a consequence, it would result in economic growth.

Secondly, it could be a good idea to plan a wide range of activities to attract tourism. Local shops could offer their products for free as a way of advertising them.

I hope that you take into account what I suggested.

Yours faithfully,

Raquel.

3) (between 180 and 220 words). Languages is a website that accepts short articles from members, you have been asked to contribute with one article regarding the most spoken second languages.  Use the information shown in the graphic. What language comes out on top?  Analyze this chart and talk about your country's situation.

It is widely known that English is the second language that is commonly learned in most European countries. What struck me as a surprise is that in the United Kingdom, French is the most popular second language. I have always thought that in this country, Spanish was regarded as a prestigious language and that its citizens were appealed to learn it since they visit Spain frequently.

On the other hand, I was aware of Irish being recognized as a second language in Ireland. Students have to learn this language at school and primary school teachers can’t work in private schools if they can’t prove that they have basic knowledge of Irish.

What is the second language in your country?

In Spain, by far the most important language, apart from our mother tongue, is English. English is compulsory even at university, although to be honest, it’s not all gold that glitters. Generally, Spanish speakers don’t reach a high level of English if they don’t spend a period abroad.

Is the educational system better in your country?

I hope so because it is not fair for young people. They spend so much time learning a language without any results, it can be very frustrating.
