🏛️ EOI WRITTEN MEDIATION TASK – LEVEL B1 & B2

🚗 TOPIC: The Best Route to the Laguna de Lanjarón

Context: Your British friend Tom is visiting you in Granada and wants to drive to La Laguna de Lanjarón.He has found two possible routes described in a Spanish tourist guide, but doesn’t understand Spanish very well. You’ve read both descriptions and now need to write an email explaining the main differences and recommending the best route.

Texto 1 – Ruta A: carretera corta y panorámica

Esta ruta es más corta en distancia, pero la carretera es estrecha y tiene muchas curvas. Atraviesa zonas montañosas muy bonitas, con vistas espectaculares del valle y del embalse. Sin embargo, hay que conducir con cuidado porque algunos tramos son bastante empinados y no hay muchos lugares donde parar. Aunque el paisaje es precioso, se tarda más de lo que parece, sobre todo si hay tráfico o si viajas con niños. Además, no hay gasolineras ni restaurantes hasta llegar al pueblo más cercano, por lo que es importante llevar agua y algo de comida. Es ideal si disfrutas conduciendo y quieres disfrutar de la naturaleza, pero no es la opción más rápida.

Texto 2 – Ruta B: carretera nueva y cómoda

La segunda ruta es un poco más larga en kilómetros, pero mucho más cómoda y segura. La carretera es nueva, ancha y bien señalizada, por lo que se puede mantener una buena velocidad durante todo el trayecto.A lo largo del camino hay varias gasolineras, restaurantes y áreas de descanso donde se puede parar a comer o estirar las piernas. También pasa cerca de algunos pueblos interesantes para visitar si tienes tiempo. Aunque el paisaje no es tan impresionante como en la otra ruta, se llega antes y el viaje resulta más tranquilo. Es una opción más práctica, especialmente para familias o para quienes prefieren una conducción fácil y sin complicaciones.

💬 MODEL ANSWER (B1 – 87 words)

Hi Tom, I’ve read about the two routes to Lanjarón. Route A is shorter and has amazing mountain views, but the road is narrow and full of curves, so it takes longer than it looks. There are no restaurants or gas stations on the way. Route B is a bit longer but safer and easier. The road is wide, new, and there are several stops with food and fuel. I recommend Route B — it’s faster and much more comfortable for families.

💬 MODEL ANSWER (B2 – 106 words)

Hi Tom,I checked the two options for driving to Lanjarón. The first one is a short but winding mountain road. It offers wonderful scenery, but because it’s narrow and steep, it can be slow and tiring. There aren’t many places to stop for food or petrol either.The second route is slightly longer, but the road is new, well-signposted, and has several restaurants and gas stations along the way. Even if the landscape is less spectacular, it’s quicker and safer. Personally, I’d suggest Route B — it’s more practical and ideal for a relaxed trip.
