WRITING 1
Write a 250-word article to be published in a well-known newspaper warning the public about the seriousness of climate change and the dangers of ignoring it. Do not forget to end your article with a convincing conclusion.
Today it’s the 10th of March and the sun is shining like a big diamond. It’s hot, of course; specifically, 22ºC. “Spring is coming”, say some people. But that is not the reason why it’s so hot these days. Have you ever heard about climate change? The sooner it’s hot, the happier people are. “Wow, what a good day!” they say. But they don’t understand that so much heat these days is not normal. Furthermore, one day it’s pretty hot, the next it’s cold and three days later it’s hot again. That’s because of climate change, which is produced mainly by pollution. If you are clever enough, you will know that humans are guilty. Cars, factories and chemical spills are some of the causes. And what about the consequences? The poles are melting, the animals that live in rivers and oceans are dying, water is running out, and the Earth is being damaged. But it seems that we don’t mind at all. Is this the planet we want our grandchildren to have? Even though it may disappear before they are born. Isn’t it? It’s time to change. It’s time to save the world from climate change and make a better place to live. If you are fed up and want to do something, please write to timetochange@gmail.com and join my team. WRITING 2
Write a 200-word formal letter of complaint to a shop where you bought a technological device that turned out to be defective. Explain the problem as clearly as possible and make a forceful claim.
Dear Mr/Ms I am writing to complain about the microphone which I bought from your shop in the shopping center of Albacete last week. I work as a teacher and usually speak loudly to my students. Consequently I often have a sore throat so I decided to buy a microphone. Your advertisement said that it was the best on the market with a long-lasting battery and excellent sound. However, I have to tell you that I’m really disappointed with Media Markt as the product isn’t as good as you promised for many reasons. First of all, the battery runs out after 4 hours of use, and I work 6 hours a day! Secondly, the sound quality is awful and a terrible noise sounds if you turn up the volume. And thirdly, it’s much more expensive than the others. To add, this is the third time I have complained and nobody has solved my problem. Furthermore, the people who I spoke to last time were impolite and unfriendly so I’m terribly dissatisfied. I do think that buying your microphone was a waste of money and demand a refund of money or an exchange for another ítem that performs its function. Yours sincerely, _________ |
