SOME TIPS:
💡 Part 1: Multiple Choice (Extracts)
The "Niche" Vocabulary: In the celebrities topic, listen for words like authentic, overrated, limelight, and publicity stunt. These often hold the key to the correct answer.
Identify the "Agreement": In Q1, both friends talk. One might say, "He's a great actor," while the other says, "I'm not so sure." The answer only counts if they both agree. Listen for "Exactly," "I'm with you on that," or "You can't deny that."
Tone of Voice: If a speaker sounds sarcastic when talking about an influencer, the answer is likely to be a negative opinion (e.g., "They are fake"), even if they use "positive" words like "perfect" in a mocking way.
✍️ Part 2: Sentence Completion (History of Fame)
Predict the Part of Speech: Before the audio starts, look at the gaps.
Example (Q16): "The invention of (16) __________..." (You are looking for a singular noun, likely a machine or technology).
Focus on History Markers: This specific talk is chronological. If you hear "The 1880s" and you are still looking for the answer for "The 1400s," you have missed it. Move on immediately to stay with the speaker.
Exact Words: You must use the exact word heard in the audio. If the speaker says "sacred" (Q10), do not write "religion" even if it has a similar meaning.
🧩 Part 3: Multiple Matching (Motivations)
The "Paraphrase" Challenge: The options use very formal language (e.g., "financial fortune"), but the speakers will use casual language.
Option D (Money): "I just wanted to make enough to never have to worry about the rent again."
Option F (Charity): "I realized I could finally draw attention to the environmental issues I care about."
Ignore the Distractors: There are 8 options but only 5 speakers. Don't feel like you must use an option just because it mentions a celebrity name.
🎙️ Part 4: Multiple Choice (Interview)
Follow the Interviewer: The interviewer’s questions act as your "location map." When the interviewer asks Emma about "privacy," that is your cue to look at Question 25.
Opinion vs. Fact: Emma and Mike will discuss many facts about social media, but the questions often ask for their feelings or concerns.
Student Tip: Listen for "opinion markers" like "What worries me is..." or "I'm a big fan of..."
The "End of Interview" Goal: Question 30 usually asks about the "future" or a "final message." Listen for concluding words like "Ultimately," "Looking ahead," or "In the long run."
🖥️ Online Academy Pro-Tip:
Since your students are using a Google Form, remind them to:
Use the "Tab" key to move between short-answer questions in Part 2 quickly so they don't miss the next sentence.
Adjust the Video Playback Speed: If they find the historical talk in Part 2 too fast, they can click the gear icon in the YouTube video and set it to 0.75x for the second listening to catch the spelling.
