EOI B1&B2 Module 9 Reading. Tips & Practice

🔑 Tips for Every Exercise: Vintage & Modernity

📖 Task 1: Paraphrasing & Abstract Meaning

  • Identifying "Anemoia": Students must realize that nostalgia for a time you never lived in is a key B2 concept. The answer to Question 2 focuses on the practical difficulties we often ignore when romanticizing the past.

  • Ethics and Vintage: Question 4 connects vintage with sustainability. Look for the word "rejection" or "statement" in the answer choices.

🧠 Task 2: Precision & Register

  • Collocation Mastery: In Gap (5), we say a product is "made to last" (durar). In B1-B2, "stay" or "end" are common distractors.

  • The "Eye" Idiom: "A good eye for detail" is a classic B2 expression. It means being observant.

✍️ Task 3 & 4: Grammar & Word Shifts

  • Comparative Modifiers: In Part 3, Gap 2 (much easier) is a core B2 point. We don't say "very easier."

  • Adjective to Noun: In Part 4, Gap 4 (belief) is a high-frequency irregular change. Students often try to write "believation" or "believement."

🔄 Task 5: The B2 Grammar Toolkit

  • Preference Structures: Remember: Prefer X TO Y. Many students mistakenly use "than."

  • The "Wish" Regret: Question 5 tests WISH + Past Perfect for a past regret.

🧩 Task 6: Cohesion & Narrative Flow

  • The Pronoun Link: In Gap (1), sentence E ("This was more than just a piece of furniture") refers to the "family treasure" mentioned before.

  • Temporal Sequence: Words like "At first" (B) and "The next stage" (F) act as chronological anchors to help rebuild the story.
