Brighton Old Town Traffic reduction measures. This proposal is intended to highlight the most appropriate option given by the city council to improve Brighton Old Town traffic. As the business owner of the “James Photography” store situated on Main Road 5th, I am pleased to send my opinion as either traffic restrictions or fees charges are both swings and roundabouts. CHARGES Business owners must pay high amounts of money in taxes, loans or rent to have our store in the Old town. An unfair extra charge just to owners will not reduce bottlenecks but benefits our incomes. Besides that, Traffic congestion occurs during the opening hours. A survey published last year in Brighton Magazine indicated the following shortcoming: “Traffic jams in Oldtown were caused by residents or tourists that were coming to buy to craft markets in its opening hours”. Furthermore, the survey showed that business owners were just using their vehicles during loading/unloading hours, which are set before the opening hours of businesses. RESTRICTIONS By reducing vehicle movements, the problem of traffic jams will be solved. However, a question needs to be raised: Are consumers going to come to the center if they are not allowed to park? Aren't we risking the sales? I assure you that this measure will come to naught if it doesn't come with a MUST, that is the increase of public transport to the area, so businesses will not be affected by a lack of locals that decide to do their shopping in shopping centers. CONCLUSION Even if money talks, seeking to minimize traffic, having the area restricted to car movements would be the best not only to improve circulation but also to reduce pollution according to our 2021 Agenda |

All human beings are equal under human rights laws. Shouldn't we then all have the same opportunities in what concerns education? To start with, it is hugely important to bring focus to the fact that education is supposed to be the basis for our very life. Yet, a question needs to be raised: if education has to be paid for, aren't we leaving people behind? It is a fact that low-income families cannot afford to send their kids to University, not even to school. However, not for a moment should we take for granted that free education leads to successful adults. The matter of fact is to realize the talent that each child has. That means aligning their capacities with the correct choice of studies. This will surely lead to satisfied students who will be efficient workers. According to the latest research of San Diego University, in countries where free education is provided, the social gap is reduced, so the children are not doomed to poverty. If equality is persecuted, by keeping free education, it seems like we are on the right track! On the other hand, it is already established that in most of the countries of the world, education is out of cost at least till 16 years old. So the real issue here is about the possibility of having free access to the University. This debate is avoided by private Universities like the plague because money talks. Following the arguments already exposed, giving equal chances to all children means allowing them to complete a degree in a public University at no cost so they can develop themselves as professional adult in the field they like. To top it all off, as a society, we should all stand up for providing free education to children. Choosing what they want to be and being able to achieve it without any cost will assure a good future in equal circumstances for them. They are our future. Let's bet on a talented one. |
